Welcome aboard cadet. You've chosen to embark upon the most technical career in Starship Avalon. You'll spend most of your cadet tenure studying how the various systems in Starship Avalon work together and how to control, optimize, maintain, and repair them.
The first question most engineers have when they board is about career advancement. Once you've graduated cadets you'll be assigned as an engineer. The tasks you'll take part in are determined by how high you are compared to the availability of your fellow crew. For the first little while you'll mainly take part in keeping the warp core at maximum efficiency. As you progress up the ranks you will take part in more and more tasks. Once you reach the Chief Petty Officer rank you're eligible for bridge duty as Operations staff or you might be offered a job as an Assistant Chief Engineer. Operations staff monitor systems and hold the power to turn off vital systems from their console if ordered. They are also in charge or restarting systems if they fail. Assistant Chief Engineers assist, or in the absence of the Chief Engineer, act as Chief Engineer in the Main Engineering. Once you've made Assistant Chief Engineer and have enough experience you might apply to the Officer's Academy and, if you graduate, become the Chief Engineer or an Operations Officer.
You won't actually perform any functions in engineering until at least your third year. Mostly you'll spend your time studying and memorizing the intricate layout of the Starship Avalon.

As an engineer you fall under the engineering division and, as such, will be wearing an engineering cadet uniform for the duration of your cadet training. Please set the following configuration for your character:

The following flow chart shows who you're supposed to talk to and in what order. Ideally you want to speak to the person directly above you. You might find yourself not having anyone by the XO or CO to speak to if no one in your division is on. At this point TRY to figure it out yourself. If you absolutely can't and it's urgent send a message to the 3IC to at least show you TRIED to go through the chain.

Being a cadet you would follow the above chart you would speak to an Engineer, then an Assistant Chief Engineer, then your Chief Engineer if you had any questions.
If you ask an engineer and they don't know their job is to ask an Assistant Chief Engineer, and so on. The information would then be filtered down the chain so everyone who didn't know would now know.
Above this chain is the divisional chain of command. You, being a cadet, should avoid even straying into this chain as "it's way above your paygrade".
